Support of the Older Person

This training is aimed at people who want to gain qualifications to enter the Aged Care Industry, through working in Rest Homes, Private Hospitals or in a client’s own home.

Experience first hand the world of work in the Aged Care industry. An important feature of this training is Clinical Placement. Part of each week is dedicated to work experience, arranged and monitored by the tutor.

The training offered is linked to the credits available on the National Qualifications Framework which leads to the achievement of the National Certificate in Support of the Older Person (Level 3).

Participants may be eligible for the Department of Work & Income (WINZ) Training Allowance and are entitled to the Tertiary Education Commission Travel Allowance which contributes towards travel costs to and from the course venue.
Practical teaching and learning methods are practised in order to equip all students with a level of skills necessary for employment.

A range of Industry professionals will share their experiences and knowledge to supplement the training offered.

Subject areas and topics covered are also relevant to the wider Health, Safety and Human Services Industries.

Employment opportunities in these areas may be in a residential setting or in a client’s own home. Caregivers are able to seek part-time, full-time and / or shift work.

The National Certificate can also be used as a stepping-stone to Higher Nursing Education at Polytech level.
